Erasmus + is the European Union program for Education, Training, Youth and Sport for the period 2021-2027.

logo.jpgHigh-quality and inclusive education and training, as well as informal and non-formal learning promoted by Erasmus +, to support participants of all ages and enable them to achieve the qualifications and skills necessary for an active participation in a democratic society, a real intercultural understanding and the transition to the job market.

Thanks to the success of the Previous Program (2014-2020) Erasmus + increases the opportunities for a greater number of participants and for a wide range of organizations. Within the Program, some key issues such as social inclusion, environmental sustainability, the transition to digital and the promotion of participation in a democratic life by the younger generations have got central roles. Spending time in another country to study, learn and work should become a must,  young people should be able to speak two languages ​​in addition to one's mother tongue, too.

For the period 2021/2027 Erasmus + has a financial envelope of € 28.4 billion, which represents an amount almost double if compared to the previous program (2014-2020).

Erasmus + supports the activities established by the European Education Area, the Digital Education and activities established by the European Education Area, the Digital Education Action Plan and the European Skills Agenda.


The specific goals of the program include:

Promote the mobility of individuals and groups for learning purposes and collaboration, quality, inclusion and equity, excellence, creativity and innovation at the level of organizations and policies in the field of education and training;

Promote mobility for non-formal and informal learning purposes, the active participation of young people, collaboration, quality, inclusion, creativity and innovation at the level of youth organizations;

Promote learning mobility of sports staff and collaboration, quality, inclusion as well as creativity and innovation .

Erasmus + is structured in three "Key Actions":

  • Key Action 1 – KA1
  • Key action 2 – KA2
  • Key action 3 – KA3

Key action 1: individual mobility for learning purposes

Key Action 1 (or Key Action 1 - KA1) intends to encourage the mobility of students, staff, youth workers and young people. Organizations may plan to send students and staff to other participating countries or welcome students and staff from other countries. They can also organize didactic, training and voluntary activities.

Key action 2: innovation and good practices

Key Action 2 (or Key Action 2 - KA2) aims to develop the education, training and youth sectors through five main activities:

  • strategic partnerships, through innovative practices and common initiatives to promote collaboration, mutual learning and the exchange of experiences;
  • Knowledge alliances, promoting innovation in higher education, and through it, together with business, as well as fostering new approaches to teaching and learning, entrepreneurship in university studies and the modernization of higher education systems all over  Europe;
  • Sector Skills Alliances, to face the skills needs and to align VET systems with the needs of the job  market. There is no shortage of opportunities to modern vocational education and training, promote the exchange of knowledge and good practices, to encourage professional activities abroad and to increase the recognition of qualifications;
  • skills development projects in the higher education, to support the modernization, accessibility and internationalization of higher education with partner countries;
  • skills development projects in the youth field, to foster the development of youth work, non-conventional learning and voluntary activities, as well as to promote informal learning opportunities with partner countries.

Key Action 3: Support for policy reform

Key Action 3 (or Key Action 3 - KA3) aims to increase the participation of young people in democratic
life, especially in discussions with policy makers, as well as to develop knowledge in the field of
education, training and youth.
